What the desk is arguing
The recent appointment of Nordea to the Executive Committee of the GBP and SBP constitutes a pivotal advance in the realm of sustainable finance. This role not only allows Nordea to influence key changes in these principles but also signifies the bank's commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in the sustainable debt market. Per the full note, Jacob Michaelsen, Head of Nordea Sustainable Finance Advisory, expressed that this position will allow them to drive the transition towards a more sustainable financial system.
Sustainable investing has seen remarkable growth, with global green bond issuance reaching approximately $270 billion in 2020 alone, a figure projected to rise further as regulatory support increases. The GBP and SBP, governed by the International Capital Market Association (ICMA), emphasize best practices in transparency and impact assessment, directly addressing investor concerns about the integrity of ESG products. The active participation of banks like Nordea at the committee level is an essential element for fostering credible markets.
